Winter is the season of glum, or plum! But with Christmas two weeks away, the clock is ticking to get cracking on that special Christmas blast. Two weeks for a Special celebration. In Western Parts of India, Christmas is like a cultural event.
A ray of hope flickers in the sky as a tiny star lights up way up high All across the land of dawns, a brand new morn. This comes to pass when the child of God was born on this day.
Despite the diversions in time Christmas is still alive and well celebrated in India; an immovable feast that changes circumstance of deeper excavations of time have failed to dislodge.
Christmas is also known as the ‘barra din‘ — the ‘big days’ of the cold season, mellow with buttery dollops of winter sun, fruity with friendly get-together s with roasted peanuts and oranges.
Christmas is a plurality of families, not all of them Christian, keeping open house all day, with guests dropping in to exchange greetings, eat a slice of cake and swap reminiscences of seasons past and friends remembered and presents.
Christmas is not sold anymore confection haunting illuminated glass pastry.
